Five-star Hayes down to three

Ann Arbor (Mich.) Skyline five-star linebacker Daelin Hayes ended a 14-month commitment to USC last month, and soon after scheduled five official visits to Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan State, Oregon and LSU. After taking the first of those two official visits, though, Hayes has decided to cancel the last two official visits he had planned and go forward in his recruitment with a top three.

WHAT'S NEXT? Hayes will take the last of his official visits this weekend to Michigan State. He took his first official visit last month to Notre Dame and just returned from an official visit to Ohio State on Sunday. Hayes is a mid-year graduate, so he has to have a decision made before January so he can enroll in the school of his choice and be ready for spring football.
IN HIS WORDS: "It's really coming down to Michigan State, Ohio State and Notre Dame. Obviously I have to make my decision pretty quick."
RIVALS' REACTION: Notre Dame has been the team to beat since Hayes de-committed from USC on Oct. 11. His official visit to South Bend a few days later strengthened his interest in the Fighting Irish, but last weekend's official visit to Ohio State helped the Buckeyes make up ground and become a contender. Michigan State was the first school to offer Hayes winter of his sophomore year, and he has not forgotten that fact heading into his official visit to East Lansing this weekend. Notre Dame would still have to be considered the team to beat, but this recruitment is tightening up and may not be decided until in-home coach visits are completed.
