When Rivls.com gives a five-star ranking it is after there has been thorough research and study. Rivals.com has an excellent track record when selecting players who is honored as a five-star. One player who has lived up to the lofty status of a five-star player is defensive lineman Phillip Mbakogu (6-3, 260, 4.8) from Hayward, Calif.
“Phillip has been unstoppable this season,” Hayward head coach Casey Marino said. “In nine games he has 75 tackles and 16 sacks with one game left.”

“Phillip has been double and tripled teamed all season long,” Marino said. “In our last game against San Lorenzo, they couldn’t run against so they went to the pass. Because of Phillip the quarterback took a one-step drop and fired.”
It worked for San Lorenzo because they handed Hayward their second loss of the season. Hayward still stands at 7-2.
Mbakogu has been offered by every team in the Pac10 except UCLA. He also has offers from the likes of Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas State and LSU.
Mbakogu has already visited Notre Dame and although he loved everything about the school and had a good time, he didn’t commit.
LSU was scheduled for a visit on December 19th but now the Tigers may get Mbakogu on December 12th.
Kansas State, Colorado, Oklahoma, Cal, ASU and WSU are looking to secure the last few visits from the talented defensive lineman from Hayward.
Mbakogu has been selected to play in the Cal/Florida all-star game that will be played in January at Moorpark City College. He has also been contacted by the US Army All-America game that is played in San Antonio inquiring if he would be available.
Rivals.com also ranks Mbakogu as the country’s number one strong side defensive end prospect. He is also a member of Rival.com’s California top 100 and ranked as the fourth best prospect in the Golden State and he is named as the fourth best prospect on the Rival.com Super West 60 team.
