Five-star cornerback mulls offseason travel

One of the most sought-after juniors in the country, Saivion Smith knows he'll eventually get bogged down. That tends to happen to athletes of his caliber. For now, though, things as they relate to his recruitment are smooth. His junior season is in the books, and the interest and offers continue to arrive.
Smith even has plenty of time to plan a few leisurely unofficial visits. Specific dates are in short supply for now, but the five-star cornerback has destinations in mind.

"I think me and [four-star receiver] T.J. [Chase] are going to try to go up to Clemson and Auburn pretty soon," Smith said. "And after this dead period, I'm for sure going to go back up to Florida State with T.J. again."
Smith, who plays his high school football at Florida's IMG Academy, says the upcoming travel is all in the name of eventually narrowing his list. He's not ready to name favorites to rule any school out. According to him, it's too early for that stuff. He is, however, moving in that direction.
"I don't really have a top school or a top list right now," Smith said. "I have to take more visits for that, obviously. That's why I'm trying to see a bunch of schools."
According to Smith, the list of schools that are on him the hardest is long. It's also one composed mostly of schools in the Southeast with one notable outlier.
"I talked to Clemson today," Smith said. "I talked a couple of coaches from Auburn and Florida State recently. I talked to UCLA, too. I talk to them. That's about it. Oh, and Miami a lot, too."
As uncertain as Smith's recruitment seems for now, some things are coming together more quickly than others. He may not have any visit dates set or a list of early favorites. What he does know, though, is what he's looking for in a college.
"I'm looking mostly at what the players do after they leave college," Smith said. "Also, if the school allows early playing time. All that and the academic part of it."
Smith plays both ways at IMG academy. Full stats from his junior season were unavailable online.
