Five-star back Mixon names top 10

Joe Mixon orchestrated a Twitter countdown of his top 10 list on Friday - and there was at least one big SEC surprise among the group.
There were also some big-time deletions from Mixon, a 6-foot-2, 207-pound recruit who shined this summer at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Chicago.

After not being among his top group leading into this release, Florida made the cut for Mixon as the Gators have seemingly made up some ground in his recruitment. Also from the SEC are Tennessee and Texas A&M, where he will take an official visit in September for the Alabama contest.
It comes as no shocker that the Pac-12 is well-represented since the Northern California prospect looks at some schools close to home, although there were some surprises as well.
Oregon, California, Oregon State and Washington made the cut from that conference. Outside his top 10 are USC, where close friend and four-star linebacker Derik Calhoun recently committed, and UCLA, considered to be at least in the running for his services for some time.
Oklahoma made the cut as expected, especially since Mixon has an official visit scheduled there for the weekend of Oct. 4 when the Sooners host TCU.
Ohio State and Wisconsin made it from the Big Ten. The five-star running back was supposed to take an unofficial trip to Madison this summer but travel complications negated that visit.
Others that did not make the cut included Arizona State, Arkansas, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Texas. Alabama has long been recruiting Mixon but has not offered yet. It seems like the five-star has tired of waiting and the Crimson Tide did not made this cut.
This top 10 release does not absolutely mean others cannot jump back on the list. After releasing favorites earlier this off-season, Mixon added some other schools as new offers came in. A commitment is not expected any time soon.
