Five stand out for Johnson

One of the top wide outs in the West region next fall will be Valley Center (Calif.) standout James Johnson. In fact, Johnson has been one of the state's best at his position the last two seasons and really blew up this past year.
Johnson, 6-0, 185 pounds earned just about every honor imaginable last season after catching 74 balls for 1,582 yards and 18 touchdowns. Johnson was named all-CIF, all-city and 1st team all-state underclass for his effort. The athlete also had 49 tackles and picked off five passes and many schools are recruiting Johnson more for defensive back than receiver.

On the recruiting front, Johnson has four offers on the table and said five schools currently stand out.
"I have offers from San Diego State, Utah, Colorado State and Oregon right now," Johnson said. "Oregon is my top choice, I've liked them for a long time. They were my childhood favorite and the school I'm leaning to right now.
"I also like USC, Ohio State, UCLA and Arizona, that's my top five. I'm not ready to make a decision yet. When the time comes, I'm going to talk about things with my parents and older brother and then we'll figure out the best place for me. I'll be going to the NIKE Camp at Oregon in June but I don't know what other summer camps I'll be going to at this time."
Academically, Johnson is solid carrying a 3.2 GPA with a 1290 on the SAT.
