Well, this week Freitag told Rivals.com Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State and Miami are the programs currently standing out.
"Nothing is set in stone," Freitag said. "I'm meeting with my head coach next week to go over everything."
Here is what Freitag likes about his unofficial leaders …
Alabama: "Coach [Nick] Saban - his program speaks for itself. Once you see it, it's pretty hard to beat from his philosophy and his plan, to their facilities. It's just amazing.
Auburn: "I just really like Coach [Gene] Chizik. I like their program."
Florida: "New coaching staff, and they're put in a whole new offense. They're going to use the tight end a lot more in the offense. I think [offensive coordinator] Charlie Weis is one of the best in the business."
FSU: "They have a lot of good coaches, great facilities and it's an up-and-coming program. They're going to be really good in the next four years. They'll probably contend for a national championship. I like what they're doing there."
Miami: "I've just recently started talking more with their coaches. I haven't visited there yet. They have a lot of history with their tight ends. And It's supposed to be a really nice school. It's a private school. I'm interested in finding out more."
All told, the 6-foot-3, 235-pound Freitag has "16 or 17" offers, he said. Kentucky was the most recent to pull the trigger, doing so last week.
Thus far, he has visited Alabama , Auburn, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
This summer, "I'll probably visit Florida State, probably Florida, Alabama … all of those in my top five," Freitag said. "And I'll probably visit a few more."
Freitag said there is a good chance he will take all five available official visits before making a final decision.
"Ideally, I'll probably commit sometime before the season's over," he said.
