Five offers for 2016 OL Spanellis

One of the most sought after offensive linemen in the Mid-Atlantic is Stephen Spanellis. Only a sophomore out of Baltimore (Md.) Gilman, Spanellis already has five offers.
"Most recent offer was from Maryland," said the 6-foot-6, 290-pound Spanellis. "I really like them. I think they're going in the right direction and it's a good program. I talk to coach Powell every once in a while. He's a really funny guy and I like him. I've visited Maryland for their junior day and then I went to their spring game. I like that they are moving to the Big Ten.

"I really like South Carolina and the SEC is good competition," he said. "They're a hard nose football team. I don't really know much about their coaching staff.
"I really like Michigan State too," Spanellis said. "Obviously they went to the Rose Bowl. I really like that the run the football and are a hard nose team. I talk to coach Burton sometimes. Hopefully I can visit this summer.
"Coach Speed from Georgia Tech came out to the school," he said. "I like their fast-paced offense with the triple option. I've talked to coach Speed before."
Two specific programs have Spanellis' attention early.
"I followed Florida and Stanford growing up," said Spanellis. "I liked Tim Tebow so I watched him. With Stanford, I really like the academics there."
Spanellis has three visits coming up.
"I'm planning to go to Northwestern, Michigan State and Notre Dame," he said. "All of those visits will be in the beginning of June."
Spanellis guessed that one of the Florida schools could offer him next.
"Miami could be the next to offer," Spanellis said. "I've been getting a lot of stuff from them in the mail."
Last year Spanellis helped Gilman to a 7-3 record.
