First visit in the books for DT

Independence (Kan.) Independence C.C. three-star defensive tackle Shavod Atkinsin is back from his first official visit, but it won't be his last. The 6-foot-1, 316-pounder took a visit to North Texas this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.
"They had a lot of stuff I didn't expect," Atkinsin said. "They had a nice rec center where everybody could hang out in. The dorms were really nice. The field was pretty tight, too. They offered me a scholarship, and I really like it down there, but I'm not ready to commit yet."

That's because other schools are pursuing him heavily.
"I have N.C. State in there, and Louisville and Arkansas have been after me for a long time," Atkinsin said. "I'm taking a visit to Arkansas on Dec. 5. With Arkansas, it's the SEC, so you can't argue with that."
Atkinsin said both Louisville and N.C. State have their positives, too.
"I don't know too much about N.C. State quite yet, because they came in on me kind of late," he said. "But I know they have a good coaching staff and they're a very good program. Louisville has been recruiting me as long as anybody, so it would be fun to see what they're about on a visit."
Atkinsin said there's still a chance he could be out in December, but if he doesn't make it at semester he'll definitely be out in May and have three years to play two seasons.
