One of the top quarterbacks in the state of Florida is Coconut Creek (Fla.) North Broward passer Brandon Doughty. However until very recently, Doughty had no scholarship offers. Over that past couple of days, that has changed first with an offer from Dan Mullen and Mississippi State, followed one day later with an offer from FIU.
"Coach Mullen actually emailed me a couple times saying to call him and it just slipped my mind," Doughty said. "I called him and he said 'what other offers do you have?' and I said that I didn't have any offers and he said 'you don't have any offers from Mississippi State? What is wrong with my recruiters?'"
Doughty developed a relationship with Coach Mullen when he was the offensive coordinator at Florida through working with him at camps. That relationship immediately gives Mississippi State a big leg up in his recruitment.

"I can definitely see myself playing for Mississippi State," he said. "[Coach Mullen] was telling me how the fans really support the team and how fan support is unbelievable and that's something I really take into account."
Along with the offer from Mississippi State and FIU, Doughty is getting significant interest from Rutgers, Michigan State, Duke and Tennessee. However, finally getting that first offer in was a huge lift off of Doughty's shoulders.
"It was a relief of about 10,000 pounds lifted off of my shoulders," he said. "It's been frustrating but I've been patient with it."
As far as his summer plans, Doughty plans to attend the Tennessee one-day camp on June 2 and is mulling over what other camps he will attend, including possible visits to Duke and NC State.
"I'm going to rap up the spring and see what schools are really interested," he said.
