After impressing onlookers at several events earlier this year, athlete Devante McFarlane of Dix Hills (N.Y.) Half Hollow Hills West is finally reaping the benefits by receiving his first two offers this week. With several other programs showing increased interest, McFarlane should see continued recruiting success in the coming weeks and months.
McFarlane, 6-foot-1 and 195-pounds, received offers from Vanderbilt and Buffalo earlier this week. His first came from the Commodores.
"The coach from Vanderbilt came to my school on Tuesday and talked to me about recruiting, the school and what his school brings," said McFarlane. "Then he went home and looked at my film and called my coach right away. He said that he will be offering me a full scholarship and he loved me."
McFarlane's success continued the next day.
"On Wednesday the Buffalo coach came to my school and did same," he said.
After trying to prove himself for months, grabbing his first two offers was an emotional moment for McFarlane.
"I was surprised and happy," he said. "Words couldn't explain the way I felt because all of my hard work had paid off."
McFarlane has maintained a busy schedule and will continue to do so.
"I took a visit to Syracuse in March and I'm going to Rutgers next weekend," said McFarlane. "UCF, Syracuse and Rutgers are showing a lot of interest, and I should also be taking visits to Vandy, Syracuse, Penn State and UCF. I'm also receiving interest from Tulsa, Miami, Colorado, Tulane, Western Michigan and a bunch more."
McFarlane will also participate at Nike Camp at Penn State tomorrow and the FBU event in New Jersey later next month.
