Ijamsville (Md.) Urbana defensive end Colton Kmetz took his first official visit this past weekend. Kmetz headed up to Ohio to check out Kent State.
"It was great, I loved the campus," he said. "The coaching staff was great and the players were great. I just like what I saw all-around there."
Kmetz went in-depth on the trip.
"I got a tour of everything basically, I got to see where all the dorms are located," he said. "I also had breakfast, lunch and inner with all the coaches along with two other recruits. I got to see the locker room, equipment room and the stadium. I also talked to the assistant dean about academics."
It certainly sounds like it impressed, but why?
"It's just, I've been to Virginia, Maryland and Pittsburgh and those are big colleges," he said. "Kent is not in a big city, but the campus is all walking distance. You can get to anything. I'll just have to get used to the cold, but it's farm land and it's a rural area, I liked it."
Prior to leaving, Kmetz spent some final time with the coaches.
"It went great, all the coaches were great," he stated. "I got to talk to them and got to know them really well. I plan on seeing them more in the future.
"I talked to the head coach too and he just explained what comes of the offer and how they really, really want me. They also discussed my position and told me what I'd be doing with their strength and conditioning coach to make me stronger and the whole package."
The question is, is Kent State leading now?
"I liked it, I can tell you that. It is an option," he said. "I just want to see within the next couple weeks if any more offers come in or if any more colleges are looking at me. If not, I'll make my decision shortly. I'm looking to commit soon."
Currently Kmetz has no other official visits set at this time.
