Freshman defensive end Desmond Evans wasn't expecting to get a scholarship offer this year but the Sanford (N.C.) Lee County star couldn't stay hidden from college coaches for long.

IN HIS OWN WORDS…

"It felt great (getting my first offer from Kentucky)," Evans said. "It's helping me get mentally prepared for the coming years. I was shocked by the Kentucky offer. I kept say 'is this for real?' I don't know much about them. I watched one of their games this year.

"I know a lot about North Carolina," he said. "I was up there for a game and it was a good environment. I watch some of the defensive ends and they're pretty big. I'm going to work on that. I was a North Carolina fan growing up. I followed a lot of the superstars that went there.

"I don't really know too much at N.C. State, East Carolina, or Charlotte," said Evans. "Virginia Tech might start recruiting me. I went on a trip up there."

RIVALS REACTION

Evans is only scratching the surface of his potential but he already possesses so many attributes not many players have. He has a huge frame, is quick at the snap, plays with good leverage, and has a tireless motor. Combine all that with his hunger and willingness to learn and offensive linemen will start having nightmares about Evans. Kentucky looks very smart for offering Evans first and all the in-state programs quickly followed suit. If Evans keeps progressing, his offer sheet should hit 40 by the end of his junior year.
