McCollum shared what he heard from the Rebels' coaches.
"They said they saw my highlight tape and that they liked it up," McCollum said. "He saw my spring game against Coral Reef and said he really liked it. At first I thought he was playing around with the offer, but then I could tell he was very serious."
At this point in the process, McCollum says he doesn't know a great deal about the SEC program.
"Not really," McCollum said.
The 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back is hoping to eventually make it to Oxford to visit the program.
"They want me to come visit," McCollum said. "I want to attend it, but it depends on the date."
In addition to Ole Miss, McCollum is also hearing from a pair of in-state schools.
"I have also heard from Florida State and Miami," McCollum said. "That is it."
The interest from Florida State just recently began.
"I started hearing from them last week," McCollum said. "They want me to come up for a visit. I am going to try to get up there."
McCollum said his visit date to Florida State will be for their next Junior Day on February 25th.
With regards to Miami, he may travel to the nearby campus this summer for one of the Al Golden Camp sessions.
"Miami wants me to attend one of their camps in the summer," McCollum said. "I am dealing with Coach (George) McDonald there."
McCollum could play cornerback or safety at the next level.
