First offer in for hard-hitting FL safety

Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater safety Mike Jones has college size at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds. He has college athleticism with a 4.5 40 and a 36 inch vertical. Now he has a college scholarship offer.
The imposing safety prospect has already benefited from the beginning of the evaluation period as Auburn has extended him his first offer.

"It happened I think Friday because they had come out to practice so they had seen me," Jones said. "They were talking to me and then they called my dad and then told me about it."
Along with Auburn, Kentucky may be very close as well after Jones took a recent visit to Lexington.
"I had went up there last week because I was going to my brother's Spring Game and Eastern Kentucky so I just went and checked them out too. They were really liking me and they said they'd come and see me in the spring."
The Auburn offer is exciting to Jones for a number of reasons. Not only is Auburn playing what Jones sees as the best conference but he seems to be a good fit for the Tiger defense.
"They want me to come up in June to come see the school because they were saying how I was the type of player that fits their program," he said. "I'm still trying to see because I think I'm going to go up there in June. But it was real exciting."
Among the other schools showing Jones heavy interest are Ohio State, South Carolina, Purdue, Virginia and Illinois.
Currently, however, Jones is focused on improving on his team's 10-2 2007 record and wining a state championship.
