First offer for NYC soph

Even as a freshman, Ray Marten of Brooklyn (N.Y.) Poly Prep showed a great deal of potential. After another impressive season last fall, the sophomore recently received word that he had obtained his first offer from an ACC school.
"I received my first offer from Boston College two weeks ago," said Marten, who is 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. "It's a very prestigious institution. It has great football and is in a great town. I'm ecstatic about all of it."

A few other schools have also gotten into the picture early.
"I spoke with Notre Dame about a month ago, but no offer yet," he said. "Penn State and Cuse too, and no offers from them yet though."
This early in his process, Marten was asked if there were any specific schools he is hoping to hear from.
"Any of them to be honest," he said. "I'll be honored and blessed to hear from any of them."
Marten also shared his thoughts on obtaining an offer after his sophomore season.
"I was really shocked to be honest," he said. "But this offer has really boosted my confidence and is making me work much harder in school, in the weight room and the field. It was a real incredible feeling. I want more."
With more and more interest coming his way, taking a few visits this off-season is likely.
"I have to see," he said. "I probably will visit a few schools over the summer. I'm still young and I'm more concentrated on having a real good season with the team this year."
Boston College offered Marten to play a hybrid H-Back position, which is also what he plays at Poly Prep, as well as defensive end.
Finally, Marten gave a quick recap of his sophomore season and what he hopes to improve this off-season.
"My sophomore season ended with our one and only loss," he said. "This off-season I want to work on my turnover speed and obviously my strength."
