First offer for Ascolese

Linebacker Vin Ascolese of North Bergen (N.J.) may have waited longer than he expected for his first offer, but on Sunday the wait paid off. Ascolese received his first offer from a Big Ten program, and my be close to receiving several more.
"I just got offered by the University of Illinois," said Ascolese. "The coach wanted to be the first to pull the trigger because he knew my process started late and he really loves how I play."

Coach Mike Gillhamer was the one who gave Ascolese the good news.
"I think he's a great, tough coach," said Ascolese, who also shared his thoughts about the Illini. "I think they're a real tough team, they have a great tradition and have a great coaching staff."
Ascolese, 6-foot-2 and 215-pounds, has been receiving interest from several top programs, with a few possibly moving closer to pulling the trigger with an offer.
"I'd say Michigan State, Michigan, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Rutgers and a few SEC schools," said Ascolese.
Next up for the North Jersey linebacker is finalizing his visit schedule.
"I don't have any visits scheduled yet," said Ascolese. "All in the summer. I will start going over that with my coach, but I'll definitely visit Illinois though."
