First offer eludes Orth

Ponte Vedra (Fla.) quarterback Perry Orth is entering his senior season without a college scholarship on the table. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound quarterback isn't concerned when it comes to landing his first offer.
"I am just waiting," Orth said. "I feel like it will come."

The Northeast Florida signal-caller has been getting a fair share of interest from colleges throughout the spring and summer.
"I've been getting interest recently from FAU, FIU, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Boston College, and Elon has a lot," Orth said. "When they all came down in the spring they got to see me throw and I heard the same thing from all of them, that they were interested and liked what they saw, how I threw, but that they want to see a full game tape during my senior year."
He believes a trio of those schools is on the verge of extending the offer.
"FAU, Elon, and FIU I think are the closest to offering," Orth said. "Those three all seem like they are just about ready to go."
During the spring and summer, Orth visited a number of schools including Elon, FAU, FIU, South Carolina, and Wake Forest. He hasn't made specific plans to return yet, but is working towards lining up some visits.
"I haven't set up any officials yet but just about every school I am dealing with wants me to come to a game this fall," Orth said. "FAU wants me to come to their first home game in their new stadium. FIU wants me to come down but I can't remember for which game it was. Boston College wants me at their home opener. Wake Forest also wants me at their first home game too. They all want me to come watch a game and see them. They all want me to come to a game and see the atmosphere."
With the fact that Orth is holding out hope that his play as a senior leads to offers, he is trying to display patience and allow the process to develop in accordance to the interest shown in him.
"I have to sit down and plan it out with my parents and everything," Orth said. "I am just trying to have the best senior season that I can and hopefully hear from as many schools as I can and then go from there. I want to plan it out as best as I can so I don't have any kind of conflict with any schools."
In most cases, Orth said that even when the first offer comes, he is unlikely to immediately accept it. That isn't the case with regards to two schools though.
"Probably South Carolina and Wake Forest," Orth said of schools he may immediately commit to. "I have always loved Wake Forest. I've been going up there since I was at my old school, at Episcopal, we used to go up as a team and I always loved it there. When I went up to camp at South Carolina this summer, the coaches really took interest in me, a lot. Coach (Steve) Spurrier (Jr.) was really nice with my mom and I, he took us around and showed us just about everything. He was just really friendly. It just seemed like a great atmosphere and a great place to play for a coach like that."
As a junior, Orth was 119-for-218 passing attempts for 1,684 yards, 15 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also had two rushing touchdowns.
