First offer comes for Tennessee TE

Bristol (Tenn.) Tennessee tight end Brendan Downs pulled his first scholarship in the past day. The 6-foot-6, 224-pounder hauled in the scholarship from the ACC.
"I got an offer on Tuesday from Duke," he said. "I was really excited. I can't wait to go up there this weekend. I'm going up for the Maryland basketball game."

Downs gave his take on Duke specifically.
"I called the coaches after getting the offer and they were just really excited about me coming up there," he stated. "I talked to my recruiting coordinator and the tight ends coach.
"I like Duke a lot. The academics are really good. I like the way their football program is and I like the coaches. I still don't know a lot about them, but I'm hoping to see more and get to know the coaches better this weekend."
The visit to Durham is the only trip set for Downs in the near future.
"I have nothing else planned at this time," he said. "I am getting recruited by a few other teams including Marshall, Maryland, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
"They are all asking to see more tape after checking out my highlight film."
Downs maintains no favorites at this time and claims to be wide open.
As a junior last season, he posted 230-yards receiving and two touchdowns.
