First offer comes for Carolina OG

Offensive guard Joseph Figueroa pulled in his first scholarships in the past week. The 6-foot-3, 285-pounder landed his first offer last Wednesday and believes more could be coming.
"I got an offer from Army on Wednesday," he said. "It was awesome. It's a very prestigious school. It should show other schools I have the talent and grades to get in.

"I never thought I'd get an offer in my junior year. I thought I'd have to wait until the beginning of my senior year. It's definitely a consideration. I'm glad to have the offer, but I'm trying to keep my eyes open."
A few other colleges are also showing interest in the Carolina guard.
"I think Duke, JMU and Elon are really interested," he said. "Duke wants me at defensive tackle while they other two on the offensive line. Duke says they want to wait until the beginning of my senior year when I can send them tape.
"I'm also hearing from Tennessee, Clemson, NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Notre Dame and Bowling Green."
Is there an early favorite for Figueroa?
"I've always been a fan of the ACC schools, I'd love to play in the ACC," he said. "I do like JMU and I'm really considering ECU. They are building a good team."
The lineman finished by discussing what he wants in a college.
"I want a good academic program and a strong and stable football program," he said. "Location is a big thing for me. I want an environment that isn't too secluded from a city. I'm looking at science or business administration."
