First offer comes for Burgess

Washington (D.C.) Dunbar linebacker Kevin Burgess took a visit not too long ago. The 6-foot-2, 203-pounder came away with his first scholarship out of the Big Ten.
"I went to Illinois a couple weeks ago and then I'm going to Eastern Michigan on the 25th," he said. "Illinois offered me after the visit.

"I had fun on the trip. I stayed up there a couple days. I chilled with a couple players from the D.C. area. I got to talk with Arrelious Benn, Reggie Ellis and a few others. I stayed in the dorm with Deon Long and then in the morning we watched them workout."
What is Burgess's take on the offer?
"It's a pretty big offer for me and my first," he said. "I do want to wait to see what else comes along during the season. I'm going to hold off."
A couple other schools are interested in the D.C. prospect.
"Maryland likes me a lot and Eastern Michigan does too. They really want to see me in person at the end of the month," he said. "Right now I'd say Illinois leads, but Eastern Michigan isn't far behind."
Burgess posted 160 tackles, 6.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles and five recoveries on his way to honorable mention all-metro honors.
