First calls for TE McCall

Three-star Prattville (Ala.) tight end Travis McCall says he’s fielded some calls from a few of his favorite schools this week.
“Auburn, Ole Miss, Central Florida, Southern Miss and Troy State have all called,” he said. “I haven’t heard from Alabama yet. I kind of thought they would be calling, but they probably will sometime soon.”

McCall (6-2, 235, 4.78) has scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, UAB, Louisville and Troy State. He said he received indications from Ole Miss tight ends coach Matt Luke that the Rebels would likely be issuing an offer as well.
The Crimson Tide have long been considered the favorite, but McCall seems to be taking a more open approach – at least publicly – at this juncture.
“I’m taking my time and listening to everybody,” he said. “I really don’t know where the best place is for me right now. Alabama is still high on my list, but so is Auburn. I just don’t want to single anybody out.”
He made an unofficial visit to the USC-Auburn game. “It was a great atmosphere,” he said. “I had a good time. I like their team a lot even though they didn’t do so well in that game.”
He plans to make an unofficial visit to Alabama when the Crimson Tide plays host to Kentucky on Sept. 13.
Prattville opened the season with an 11-0 win last week. McCall described it as a “defensive battle” in which he caught only one pass for 17 yards. He’s known primarily as a blocking end at this point, but has seen his receiving skills improve since his junior season. He’s rated the No. 7 tight end prospect in the nation by Rivals.com.
Academically, McCall maintains a 2.4 GPA and has scored an 18 on the ACT.
