Fields about ready to choose

Shay Fields has one more official visit and then the four-star wide receiver could be ready to make his commitment.
The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco standout parted ways with USC recently and that opened the doors for Colorado, Cal and other programs still recruiting him.

Fields and his father took a trip to Colorado last weekend and it was definitely impressive.
"It was very enlightening," Fields' father said. "It was a good trip overall. He really enjoyed it.
"The message was he could compete to play early and that playing time is there. They don't have a lot of depth at receiver and that needs to be addressed. They believe he can come in and play right away.
"The education portion is great. They have a program where he could come in and graduate in 3 ½ years if he comes in and takes care of your business. The whole atmosphere - the campus is beautiful."
Fields, who finished with 1,617 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in his senior season, was also impressed by the new Colorado coaching staff's track record. They turned around a doormat San Jose State program and look to do the same thing in Boulder.
The four-star receiver will visit Cal this weekend and then the family is expected to sit down and make a final decision. The Golden Bears are definitely serious contenders in his recruitment. Boise State is also being considered. A trip to TCU was a possibility but will not happen.
"I told him after (the Cal trip) we're going to sit down and figure it all out," Fields said. "The three things he really wanted was early playing time, playing in the Pac-12 and a great academic environment."
