Clelin Ferrell spoke with Clemson position coach
Marion Hobby earlier this week, Ferrell was posed a question about the timing of
his next visit.
It's coming soon, Ferrell replied. But like his rehabilitation from a torn
anterior cruciate ligament, baby steps are required.
All of Benedictine School's games are on Saturdays, and Ferrell feels an
obligation foremost to being at those.
"It's difficult for any senior going into his last season to not necessarily be
a part of the team," he said. "So that has been hard. But it's showed me that
some people care more about me off the field, that I'm not just viewed as a
football player."
Ferrell (6-foot-5, 245 pounds) will be recognized for his football abilities
later this morning, as he is set to be presented with his jersey for the Under
Armour All-American Game.
His injury will obviously preclude participation in the January all-star game.
Ferrell, ranked No. 85 nationally by Rivals.com, earned the honor after
registering 60 tackles, 26 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks as a junior.
"It's like a dream come true basically," he said. "It's the same for anyone
growing up who wanted to achieve success. Everybody wants to be an All-American,
and I'm truly blessed."
Ferrell suffered the injury during Benedictine School's opener when his right
knee gave way as he lunged toward the opposing quarterback.
He had surgery Sept. 1 and is off crutches, with his rehab program currently
calling for lots of weight lifting to rebuild the muscles in his right leg.
"A lot of people have different timetables, but my time period to be ready is
next season," he said. "That's the only timetable I'm putting on it."
Ferrell said he stays in communication with four different Clemson coaches and
expects to enroll next June.
"I'm very, very close with them," he said. "I watch them every game. Their
defense looks great. We might have had a couple of breakdowns in the Georgia
game, but the defense has been great."
