Ferns looking at Florida visit

Class of 2016 linebacker Brendan Ferns made multiple campus visits this spring, but has stayed closer to home this summer. He could restart college visits later this month, however.
"We're going down to Florida for vacation July 21st and (the Gators) have been calling (so) we may drive up to see Florida for a day," Ferns said. "I have a good bit of family down there and I think my dad's plan after we graduate is to head down to Florida."

Florida's contact so far has been primarily through Ferns' father, so the Saint Clairsville, Ohio prospect does not have a strong connection with the Gator's coaching staff yet, but that will be an important part of this upcoming visit.
Ferns is closing in on 15 total scholarship offers in the process, and he has seen about half of those schools in-person already.
"Every school is nice. It's more about just getting to know the people," Ferns said. "When I go to a place I don't try to get caught up in facilities or wins or stuff like that. The second and maybe third (visits) is when you get to know the people."
Among the schools that have offered Ferns are Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, N.C. State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Virginia and West Virginia.
"There's no top team on my list right now," Ferns said. "My plan is (to decide) before my senior season. Recruiting is speeding up more and more, kids are committing earlier and earlier so to make sure you have a spot when you want to pick a school I want to make it before my senior season."
The 6-foot-2, 222-pound Ferns did not attend any camps in June and does not plan on attending any this month either.
