Ferns in close contact with Ohio State

The primary focus for Rivals250 2016 linebacker Brendan Ferns this fall is the success of his St. Clairsville (Ohio) team, but he still leaves a little time for the recruiting process.
"I've been to one (game) so far - the Ohio State-Virginia Tech game," Ferns said. "Living in Ohio, that was actually my first, ever Ohio State game. It was probably not the outcome they wanted, but it was really neat."

Ferns has also keeps a regular schedule of conversations with the Ohio State coaches, having a chat with head coach Urban Meyer just this past Monday.
"What I try to do with (Ohio State) Coach (Chris) Ash is every Monday I try to get a call in, kind of a scheduled thing," Ferns said.
Ferns also keeps in contact with several other coaching staffs and plans a call with Penn State assistant Brent Pry on Wednesday.
"All of the coaches are really the same," Ferns said. "It's kind of intimidating at first because you think of them almost as celebrities, but once you get to know them you figure out they're another person."
Additional game visits have not been scheduled for the remainder of the season, but Ferns said his recruiting process is picking up. Ole Miss is the latest to offer and he has seen a lot of interest recently from Oregon and Texas A&M.
St. Clairsville has a perfect 5-0 record this season. The 6-foot-2, 222-pound Ferns added to his linebacker duties last weekend by lining up at running back and rushing for over 100 yards and three touchdowns.
