Ferguson has options

Though Denton (Texas) Guyer is a relatively new school it has not taken the program long to become one of the top teams in the state. Along with a successful record on the field it has also produced more than its fair share of prospects as of late.
Another Guyer prospect on the radar for the class of 2012 is jumbo athlete John Ferguson. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound senior has picked up a trio of offers to this point.

"Right now I have offers from Oregon State, Air Force and Navy," Ferguson said. "Oregon State came in a while back, like before spring ball started. Air Force came in during spring ball and Navy just came in the past couple weeks.
"Oregon State really came as a complete surprise. I was kind of expecting Air Force and Navy because they had been talking to me for a while. I've also been talking to Louisiana Tech now for a while."
Ferguson plans to use his official visits this fall but did recently make a trip to see one of the programs that has offered.
"My dad took me up to Navy," he said. "He's an alum of there if there so he wanted me to go see it after they offered. It was nice; I liked it a lot."
Though Oregon State was the first to offer Ferguson he does not talk to the Beaver coaches as often as those at some other schools.
"I keep in contact with them a little bit," he said. "I don't talk to them too much but I do a little bit. I'm just not sure if I want to go that far for school. I think I might visit up there though."
Ferguson plays offensive tackle for Guyer but could end up at a number of positions at the next level.
"I was a tight end until the start of my junior year," he said. "We had some offensive line guys graduate so I moved in to tackle. Some colleges like me as a tight end and others tackle. A few like me as a defensive end too. I'd probably rather play tight or defensive end because I could play sooner there because I wouldn't have to gain so much weight."
Though early commitments are becoming the norm in Texas, Ferguson is an exception. He says he has no favorites at the moment.
"Not really," he said. "I kind of want to keep my options open. I don't want to commit early in case I miss out on anything. I just want to make sure I pick the one that I really want to go to."
