FB de-commits, chooses Notre Dame

An early verbal commitment, they say, is worth the paper it's written on. In the case of this New England fullback, his last camp destination became his new and future home.
"I'm de-committing from Maryland and I committed to Notre Dame," said Hartford (Conn.) Weaver fullback Asaph Schwapp. "I really liked Maryland quite a bit when I camped there and was honored and excited to receive an offer, so much so that I committed too soon I think."

Schwapp, a 6-foot-0, 239-pounder, had previously camped at Boston College and had one camp left after Maryland.
"We decided to go to Notre Dame because we had already paid for the camp anyhow and we wanted to take a look," he said. "I guess they were pretty impressed with what I had to offer and they sent me a written offer a day after I left. I really liked the coaches there and my recruiting coach (coach Simmons) and Notre Dame is a better fit for me academically."
Is Schwapp now final in his decision?
"Yes," he laughed. "I know this is not the way you're supposed to do things and I feel bad about it because I like the folks at Maryland. But I've always been told that recruiting is a business and I need to do what I feel is best for me."
As a junior, Schwapp earned all-conference honors for the second year in a row on both sides of the ball. He racked up 1,313 yards and 13 touchdowns on 110 carries. Schwapp also recorded 74 tackles, eight sacks and five interceptions.
