FAU offers Houston area DE

Sugar Land (Texas) Kempner defensive end Shalom Ogbonda is one of the better kept secrets in the Houston area. The 6-foot-4, 232-pound junior is just starting to tap into his potential but college coaches can't help but be impressed by his size and athleticism.
Recently, the talented defender picked up his first scholarship offer. Surprisingly, it came from a school that does not heavily recruit the Lone Star State.

"I was offered by Florida Atlantic yesterday," Ogbonda said on Thursday evening. "I had been talking to them for a little while and then they told me that they were offering me when I talked to them yesterday.
"It was a little bit of a surprise to me. I didn't think I would get my first offer before we went through spring football. I guess they liked what they saw of me on film."
Ogbonda's offer is even more impressive considering the game of football is very new to him. He was not even familiar with the sport until recently.
"I moved to Texas from England," he said. "I just decided to come out and play football once I moved here. I went out for the team in 8th grade. It was completely different than what I expected. I liked it though. I love playing football now."
Ogbonda says several coaches have told him they plan to come by and watch him once the team begins spring practice on May 2.
