Junior to Watch: Brian Hildebrand
School: Corona, Calif.
Position: Quarterback
Size and Speed: Hildebrand stands 6-foot-2, weighs 190 pounds and runs the 40 in 4.7. He has an outstanding power clean of 265 pounds. His bench is 225, his squat is 315 and he has recorded a 31-inch vertical.
Honors: Hildebrand has been selected second-team all-league for the last two seasons. He finished second to Colorado bound Bernard Jackson his junior season.
Statistics: Hildebrand has thrown for 4,498 yards and 31 touchdowns for his career at Corona. He threw for 1,898 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior against only seven interceptions.
Favorite Colleges: Hildebrand has heard from UCLA, Colorado, Boston College, and Michigan. “Pretty soon he is going to hear from everyone,” Corona head coach John Brandom said.
Skinny: Hildebrand has been the starting quarterback at Corona since his freshman season and he progressively gets better every season. He had a very strong showing at the Nike Camp held at USC earlier in early April. Hildebrand impressed everyone in attendance with his arm strength, accuracy and technique.
“Brian has had a tremendous off-season,” Brandom said. “He has gone above and beyond what we expected out of him.”
Hildebrand is very unselfish. All he wants to do is win. The most important thing to him is the team. He’s a tremendous leader who doesn’t make excuses.
“People don’t realize that Brian didn’t have real experienced receivers to throw to,” Brandom said. “His receivers were only sophomores. This season he will have veteran receivers to throw to.”
The scouting report on Hildebrand is he is a very accurate passer (anyone who was at the Nike camp can attest to that) and can pass with power or touch.
“Brian has always been accurate even when he first showed up here as a freshman,” Brandom said. “Now he has the arm strength to go with his accuracy.”
“Brian is very football savvy,” Brandom said. “He’s a very knowledgeable football player and is way ahead of the learning curve. He will check into a running play depending on the coverage at the line of scrimmage or if a pass will he calls that play. He’s right 99% of the time.”
Look for Hildebrand to be one of the most sought after quarterbacks from the Golden State this season. He is special and he has all the intangibles necessary to make an impact on the next level.
