Lexington (Va.) Rockbridge offensive guard Caleb Farris pulled in his first two offers in the past week. The 6-foot-4, 306-pounder discussed those and his recent visits.
"I got offers from East Carolina and Marshall," he said. "Basically, I'm grateful. I've been waiting so long and it's a lot of hard work. I finally got my first one and I exploded with a bunch of emotion. It was great. I went on a visit to East Carolina to watch a spring practice and had my phone off. After we left driving up to North Carolina, I looked at my phone and my coach told me to call Marshall. I gave them a call and the coach told me I had a full scholarship.
"I almost dropped the phone. It was crazy. I started getting all excited and I told my mom, she pulled the car over and we started to celebrate.
"It was almost the same deal with East Carolina. I got home on Sunday and my mom said I had an email and they offered me. I was overflowing with emotion. It was a great, great feeling. I'm very grateful."
While he hasn't visited Marshall to date, Farris did discuss his visit to East Carolina.
"I haven't been to Marshall yet, but I'm planning to go there next weekend to hang out with the coaches and see campus and watch spring practice," he said. "I did go to East Carolina and that was a great environment. I told them a big part of what I want from my college experience is a big football environment like at Virginia Tech or Virginia. Everybody is into it and it's crazy. That's the kind of feel I want with 50 or 60,000 fans. I want that feeling walking down the street and people congratulating you."
More visits are likely coming for Farris who plans to go to Boston College and Harvard over April 15 through the 19th, Virginia Tech's spring game on April 25th and perhaps Tennessee and Georgia in May.
