The skinny: No. 36 overall, the No. 5 defensive tackle and the No. 1 recruit
from Illinois in 2015, Beckner was always seen as a lean towards his in-state
Tigers. However, despite this lean, he also took official visits to Auburn,
Florida State and Ohio State before officially committing to Missouri on
National Signing Day. Beckner's freshman season at Missouri was limited to only
nine games after he tore his right ACL and MCL in November. Even with this
missed time, Beckner still managed to impress during his time on the field with
27 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, three sacks and one fumble recovery.
Farrell's take: Beckner was close to being a five-star out of high school and
maybe we should have known that Mizzou would turn him into a great defensive
lineman like they seem to do with different players each year. He was athletic enough to play outside
or inside in high school and his get-off was great, but his strength and ability
to push opponents into the backfield so early is beyond impressive.

Jordan Whitehead | Pittsburgh
Monaca (Pa.) Central Valley | 4-star
The skinny: No. 75 overall, the No. 6 cornerback and the No. 1 recruit from
Pennsylvania in 2015, Whitehead committed to Pittsburgh after taking official
visits to the Panthers, plus Ohio State, Penn State and
West Virginia. He was
set to be a January enrollee until a sudden coaching change in Pittsburgh made
Panther fans sweat everything out. Once Pittsburgh named Pat Narduzzi as
its head coach, Whitehead's concerns were alleviated and he remained committed to
the Panthers. Whitehead had the production of an upperclassman this fall, with
100 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, one interception, one forced fumble and six
passes defended.
Farrell's take: Whitehead was well thought of coming out of high school as a
two-way guy who projected as a cornerback, but his ability to play offensively in
college is a bit unexpected. Credit the staff for putting the most athletic
players on the field and now his two-way ability in college makes him one of the
most dangerous players in the ACC.
