Farrell 50 Countdown: Nos. 46-50

Bio: No. 71 overall, the No. 5 athlete and the No. 2 recruit from Arizona in 2012, Foster didn't commit to Arizona State until a few days before National Signing Day. But it was never much of a secret that the Sun Devils were his favorite. Foster took official visits to ASU, California, Nebraska, Oregon and USC, but at the end, he stayed close to home. At Arizona State, Foster's versatility has been a huge asset to the offense. He'll show that again this fall with a move to wide receiver, after rushing for almost 1,100 yards last fall.
Farrell's take: Top 50 in college might be a stretch since he's moving positions, but Foster will get a ton of touches and he makes the offense go. I loved his versatility in high school and it has shown well in college as he's the active all-purpose yardage leader in FBS without being a return man.

QB
Jared Goff, California
Kentfield (Calif.) Marin Catholic, 2013, four-star
Bio: No. 140 overall, the No. 8 pro-style quarterback and the No. 15 recruit from California in 2013, Goff received his first offer from California during a junior day visit, and with his father having played baseball for the Golden Bears, they immediately became a heavy favorite. About a month later, Goff committed to Cal and never strayed. At Cal, Goff is still sliding under a lot of people's radars despite throwing for 3,975 yards and 35 touchdowns last fall. If the Golden Bears can put a better season together on the field (they finished 5-7 in 2014), look for Goff to become a household name by the winter.
Farrell's take: I loved Goff's attitude and swagger out of high school; one of the reasons we had him so high. With QBs, you get a feeling as much as anything and I had a feeling he was tough and could overcome adversity, and the 1-11 freshman nightmare he endured will serve him well. This kid has moxie, always has.

DE
Leonard Floyd, Georgia
Eastman (Ga.) Dodge County, 2012, four-star
Bio: No. 177 overall, the No. 13 weakside defensive end and the No. 12 recruit from Georgia in 2012, Floyd earned his offer from Georgia during the school's summer camp after his sophomore season. Since that point, the Bulldogs were considered the favorite, so it didn't come as a huge surprise when he committed over offers from Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and others. Now an outside linebacker, he has become an elite pass rusher in Athens. However, a shoulder injury that required surgery is causing concern. If fully healthy, Floyd is in line for another big season.
Farrell's take: A year in Prep helped Floyd mature and add some bulk, and we projected him as a defensive end, although we knew he could also stand up and play. He'd be higher on this list without the shoulder question mark, but we expected him to be an elite edge rusher and he's become a terror for the Dawgs.

QB
Kyle Allen, Texas A&M
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain, 2014, five-star
Bio: No. 7 overall, the No. 1 pro-style quarterback and the No. 1 recruit from Arizona in 2014, Allen had Texas A&M as one of his favorites early, but when he committed suddenly, it was a bit of a surprise. He committed to the Aggies over Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame and UCLA. Arriving at Texas A&M as a spring enrollee, Allen quickly learned the offense and put himself in position to start the final five games of his freshman season. He finished with 1,322 yards and 16 touchdowns last fall and, despite the arrival of freshman quarterback Kyler Murray on campus, he should be able to solidify his position as the leader of the Texas A&M offense in 2015.
Farrell's take: We probably have Allen higher than most, but that's because of how high we were on him out of high school. Like Goff, but to an even bigger extreme, Allen had that "it" factor, so it's no surprise he is in the position he's in even after the start of Kenny Hill last season. Three-and-out and first-rounder? Yep, that's what I think.
