Farrell 15: Nos. 7-9

The skinny: No. 57 overall, the No. 6 running back and the No. 3 recruit from Ohio in 2015, Scott committed to Michigan State after trimming his list down to the Spartans and Ohio State. His commitment was a surprise to many, as it is not often that Urban Meyer misses on an in-state target. While he shared carries with both Gerald Holmes and Madre London, Scott became the go-to back when it came down to crunch time. Scott finished with 691 yards and 11 touchdowns on 140 carries. In Michigan State's final drive in the Big Ten championship game, Scott carried 13 times and scored the game-winning touchdown with 27 seconds left.
Farrell's take: I loved Scott's ability to run with power coming out of high school, as well as his leg churn, and when I saw him out at the Semper Fi All American Bowl, I had a feeling he could be that next big back for the Spartans. His performance in the Big Ten Championship Game on the final drive belies his age and he could be the best back since LeVeon Bell in East Lansing. I think this kid will be a big-time NFL player as well if he adds additional speed.

Derwin James | Florida State
Haines City (Fla.) | 5-star
The skinny: No. 5 overall, the No. 1 safety and the No. 3 recruit from Florida in 2015, James avoided any recruiting drama by committing to Florida State almost three years before National Signing Day. While a majority of recruits who commit that early tend to re-open their recruiting process at some point, James never wavered and signed with the Seminoles. James slid right into the Florida State secondary like a veteran, finishing with 77 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and three passes defended.
Farrell's take: I've said it before and I will say it again -- James is the most athletic and dynamic safety I have ever scouted and that's saying something. And, after an average start, he came on and became a dominant defensive back as a freshman. He can blitz, he can tackle in space and support the run and he can cover a ton of ground in the passing game. And this is only the beginning as he will be an absolute star in college and beyond, which is why we had him as a top 5 player.
