Fantastic Floridians

It has been said that every school in America recruits the state of Florida. Florida, Florida State and Miami are always in the hunt for the national title and they do it for the most part, with in-state talent. Not to mention every school in the SEC and ACC has dozens of Floridians on its roster. Today, Rivals.com releases the preseason top 100 list for the Sunshine State.

The Sunshine state has a solid group of quarterbacks this year lead by Jacksonville (Fla.) Nease gunslinger Tim Tebow, who comes in at No. 2 in the state and is also ranked as the No. 23 overall prospect. There is a big gap between Tebow and the next quarterback on the list, which is Lauderdale Lakes (Fla.) Boyd Anderson signal caller Herb Bynes at No. 60. Bynes is hot as of late picking up offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Wisconsin and others. Dexter Davidson of Coconut Creek (Fla.) North Broward Prep and Thaddeus Lewis of Hialeah (Fla.) Miami Lakes check in at No. 65 and No. 68 respectively.
Rivals 100 members C.J. Spiller and Javarris James lead the running back category. Spiller is ranked as the No. 5 player in Florida while James comes in at No. 12. Florida commit Chevon Walker makes the list as the No. 42 player in Florida and the states third-best running back prospect. Pensacola, Fla., running back Courtney Jones, who committed to Mississippi State early in the process, will make Bulldog fans proud by coming in at No. 55. The only fullback to make the list is Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles fullback Shaun Chapas, who comes in at No. 70.
Florida is known for producing great wide receivers and the top rated wide out in the state this year is Clermont (Fla.) East Ridge receiver Richard Jackson who ranks as the No. 6 player in Florida and is also a Rivals 100 member. Big bodied wide out Dominic Brown of Dade City (Fla.) Pasco earns the No. 23 spot. Wide receivers Anthony Jones at No. 29 and Sam Shields at No. 30 round out the top 30. Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland star Tony Wilson, Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater's Greg Mathews, St. Augustine wide out Quintin Hancock and Zephyrhills speedster Bryan Thomas also cracked the top 50.
No list would complete without the big men up front and this year's offensive line crop is deep. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas tackle Sam Young is the states top player and the No. 8 overall prospect in the nation. Boyd Anderson big man Charles Deas, who projects as an offensive tackle on the next level checks in at No. 11 and is also a member of the Rivals 100. Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson tackle Daron Rose comes in at No. 13 and is the first Floridian outside of the Rivals 100. Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley tackle Jim Barrie also made the top 25 cut checking in at No. 25. The top guard on the list is Miami (Fla.) Killian prospect Kevin Perez who comes in at No. 48, while the top center prospect is Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas spark plug Daniel Wegner who earned spot No. 44.
Only two tight ends made the list. Land O'Lakes tight end Caz Piurowski is a a freaky athlete who got Rivals 100 consideration and checks in as the No. 16 player in the Sunshine state. Tampa (Fla.) Jefferson tight end Trent Pupello is another prospect on a very talent team and checks in as the No. 92 player in Florida.
There are always a lot of great linebackers in the Sunshine state and this year there are plenty. The top linebacker in the state is Tallahassee (Fla.) North Florida Christian athlete Marcus Sims, who is the No. 8 ranked player in the state. Big hitter Chasman Davis is ranked as the states No. 9 player. Both Sims and Davis are Rivals 100 members. A.J. Jones, may eventually be considered a safety prospect but for now he is listed as an outside linebacker and is the No. 19 player in Florida. Hamilton County product Dustin Doe is the states top inside linebacker and No. 28 prospect overall. Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips linebacker Recardo Wright is ranked as the No. 32 player in the state and one of the top sleepers in the South. Antonio Lowery of Miami (Fla.) Columbus is the top linebacker in Dade County this year and the No. 36 player in the state.
There may not be a lot of great defensive lineman Sunshine state this year, but the crop is solid and led by Greenacres (Fla.) John I Leonard defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis, who comes in as the states No. 4 prospect and is a member of the Rivals 100. Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough gets two players in the top 15 as defensive tackle Leslie Stirrups comes in at No. 15 in the state. The states top defensive end prospect is Miami (Fla.) Central big man Bryant Miller who comes in at No. 33
The top defensive back on the list is Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby Deandre McDaniel who comes in at No. 14 and his teammate, cornerback Marcus Udell comes in at No. 17. Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson cornerback Chris Duvalt makes the list at No. 22.
Several athletes made the list as well, the most highly sought after being Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood's Jamar Hornsby who is rated as the No. 3 prospect in the state and is a Rivals 100 member. Clearwater (Fla.) Catholic athlete Riley Cooper is the state's No. 7 prospect and a Rivals 100 member as well as Jarred Fayson who ranks as the No. 10 prospect in the state. West Palm Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Lakes athlete Brandon Heath also cracked the top 25 by bringing in the No. 21 spot in the state.
