Back in March, 2023 three-star linebacker Denzel Moore verbally committed to the Indiana Hoosiers but by late May changes on the coaching staff had forced him to hit the pause button. As Moore (6-2, 230) has made the offseason move from Meadowcreek to Lawrenceville’s Central Gwinnett, college programs have continued to track him, and offer him, with 30-plus scholarships in-hand. With the 2021 Georgia high school football season ramping up, Moore may use fall game day visits to make a midseason top schools list with a possible end of year commitment.

Q&A with Denzel Moore

Denzel, which college programs did you work out for and/or camp with this summer?

I camped with Georgia; that was a private workout with Coach (Glen) Schumann. For about an hour-and-a-half we worked on my coverage, my catching, and my speed. We did a 40, the 5-10-5, and L-drill. I was welcomed at Georgia. Everyone came up to me, including head coach Kirby Smart. They say all dogs stay home; it was a great pleasure to meet and workout with the coaches. It was great.

I also camped at Kentucky. It was great. Coach (Jon) Sumrall taught me a lot. We’ve been talking a lot. He is a great coach and Kentucky is a great program. I also went to Buffalo in my hometown. They’ve changed everything around there, the team, the academics… I feel that it is a great program now. They will be next up.

Which programs did you get to visit?

I visited Georgia Tech, Georgia, Buffalo, and Coastal Carolina.

At Georgia Tech, what stuck with you about the campus and facilities?

It is a great up and coming school. Coach (Geoff) Collins has something great coming up at Georgia Tech. Their academics, you know they are great. Academics in my recruiting is big. Academics is important to me. Football is second to my academics. Georgia Tech showed me a lot.

Going to the other top in-state school you visited, what was it like getting to visit the Bulldogs?

It was great. They set the tone for other schools. They are a great SEC school that produces a lot of players to the league. If I choose to go there, they will prepare me for the NFL and as a man; that’s what you need with recruiting.

Which schools may you go visit in the coming weeks?

I am visiting Michigan first. I also plan on visiting Buffalo, Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina, Mississippi State, and Georgia.

Your recruiting continued to soar throughout the summer months, how many offers have been given to you?

I have 31 offers.

Which programs are showing interest?

Oklahoma, they are showing interest. Their coaches just followed on Twitter. Michigan State is also showing interest.

Of the teams that have offered, which programs are in constant contact with you?

Michigan, I call them just about every day. I call their head coach (Jim Harbaugh), the boss man; I love talking to him. I feel like Michigan is a great place for me. That’s where the love is at. At Georgia, I am talking to Coach (Glenn) Schumann; they set the tone for me. I can’t leave them out. They produce a lot of great players. Buffalo, they are my hometown school. They want me to go back where I was born and raised. Coastal Carolina is another. Coach (Skylor) Magee, their defensive line coach, we talk once a week. We chop it up and love it.

Because you have so many offers, are you thinking about putting out a top schools list?

I am thinking about ending my recruiting. I have been talking with my family about ending it in December or January.

Before you announce your commitment, are you going to put out a Top Schools List?

Yes, in October or somewhere around there.
