1. Caleb Williams will commit to Oklahoma on his March visit.

Farrell’s take: FICTION. While I predict Caleb Williams ends up with the Sooners in the end, the five-star quarterback will continue to take his time and compare his Oklahoma visit to perhaps trips to LSU or Clemson. And, of course, Maryland is in here as well and new programs could emerge. He will be tempted to commit because Oklahoma is his leader, but I bet he holds off.

Gorney’s take: FICTION. Oklahoma is probably the frontrunner and nobody could argue with that since the Sooners have done so incredibly well at that position in recent years but it’s still too early for Williams to shut down his recruitment and make a commitment. LSU is still a major consideration even with assistant coach Joe Brady off to the NFL and I’m not counting out Maryland because playing with Rakim Jarrett could be appealing. There’s a very good chance Williams ends up in Norman but I don’t think it happens this soon.

2. Zach Evans is a lock for Florida now.

Farrell’s take: FACT. Rumor has it that Ole Miss is out and this is down to Florida and Tennessee, which is interesting because neither of these programs were on his early list of favorites (Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M and others). With an official visit to Gainesville coming up and Tim Brewster recruiting Zachary Evans, this ends on his visit.

Gorney’s take: FICTION. Nothing is a lock when it comes to Evans. Nothing. He had a National Letter of Intent sent to Georgia and somehow didn’t end up with the Bulldogs and his recruitment stays open. Anything can happen here and I wouldn’t be surprised if it continues to play out in the coming weeks, if not months.

Florida definitely looks the best for Evans now but how many times have we said that about other schools in the past couple of years? I’ll take the field over the Gators.

3. Alabama can steal away Maason Smith from LSU.

Maason Smith
Maason Smith (Sam Spiegelman)

Farrell’s take: FICTION. Maason Smith is interested in Alabama and Nick Saban has stolen some key Louisiana players away from LSU over the years, but that won't happen this time. LSU is coming off a national championship and Ed Orgeron is a great recruiter especially, when it comes to defensive linemen.

Gorney’s take: FICTION. Alabama is not going to give up on Smith because he’s arguably the top defensive tackle in the 2021 class and one of the best overall prospects. Because of that, the Crimson Tide can never be counted out. But Smith lives less than two hours from Baton Rouge, the Tigers are recruiting well and they just came off a national title and this will be a battleground, in-state recruit for Orgeron. LSU lands him, but it won’t be that easy.
