Fab 15: Southeast underclassmen impress in RCS Atlanta stop

The Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armour took over Atlanta this past weekend and as usual the event was one of the most talent-rich on the entire series. The offensive and defensive top overall performers have already been named, but here’s a look at some underclassmen who more than held their own at the event and are stars to watch going forward.

DL Robert Cooper (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Cooper has early offers from Florida State, Mississippi State, South Carolina and several others.

Performance: There wasn’t a defensive lineman in attendance who took more one-on-one reps than Cooper, and he won the majority of them, despite facing off against a loaded group of interior linemen. Cooper tipped the scales at 350-plus pounds and while he will need to drop some weight, he moves very well for a player his size and showed with his pass-rushing skills that he’s more than just a space eater.

WR Camron Johnson (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Johnson has offers from Tennessee, Auburn and several others.

Performance: Johnson is a two-sport star with offers in both football and basketball, and it’s clear that he’s a natural athlete. He has long arms and strong hands, and showed good explosion getting in and out of his breaks. He rarely dropped a ball that came his way and had his share of success during one-on-ones.

OL Keiondre Jones (2019)

Recruiting Wrap: Jones already has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida and others.

Performance: It’s harder for young offensive linemen to turn heads at a loaded event than it is for skill position players, but don’t tell that to Jones, who more than held his own against bigger, stronger and more experienced defensive linemen. Jones measured in at 6-foot-3 and 289 pounds, and looks like he has the tools to develop into a star down the road. With his excellent fundamental base, it’s easy to see why SEC powers are already lining up to offer Jones scholarships.

WR Dominick Blaylock (2019)

Recruiting Wrap: Blaylock already has a national offer list, with Alabama being the most recent school to add to it.

Performance: Blaylock is a quick, shifty wide receiver who can get in and out of his breaks in a hurry and he’s quick to make defensive backs pay if they use sloppy technique. He also has very sure hands and hauled in several balls that would have fallen incomplete to most wide receivers.

CB Derrik Allen (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Allen has a long list of national offers, with schools such as Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame and others battling for his services.

Performance: At least year’s camp Allen was a tall, skinny cornerback. What a difference a year makes as he weighed in at more than 200 pounds and looked the part of big-time safety. Allen still has very good coverage skills, and he showed them off by recording multiple interceptions and pass breakups.

OL Jalil Irvin (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Irvin is waiting on his first offer.

Performance: Irvin’s underclassman teammate at Stephenson, Dylan Wonnum, won overall offensive line MVP honors but Irvin wasn’t far behind him when it came to total rep wins during one-on-ones. The 6-foot-3, 273-pounder is more of a true guard, but he showed excellent footwork and strong hands while handling bigger defensive linemen.

TE Tyneil Hopper (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Hopper has early offers from Kentucky, Wake Forest and Louisville.

Performance: Hopper measured in at 6-foot-2 and 209 pounds, and while he’s still growing, he looks like a very nice prospect at the tight end/H-back position. He routinely got open on Saturday and was too quick for linebackers to cover and too physical for defensive backs to handle. His offer list will surely grow over the next few months.

OL Oyenmwen Uzebu (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Uzebu is waiting for his first offer.

Performance: Uzebu is one of the true success stories of the camp, coming in as a virtual unknown but turning heads with his performance. At 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, he’s already the size of a college offensive lineman. Assuming he can keep working on his conditioning as well as his skillset he should have plenty of college choices to choose from before it’s all said and done.

OL Reuben Unije (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Unije recently picked up his first offer, courtesy of N.C. State.

Performance: Another huge underclassman offensive lineman, Unije measured in a 6-foot-5 and 302 pounds. Despite his size he was light on his feet during drills and he showed the same ability while working at left tackle during one-on-ones. Unije’s offer list will likely hit double digits by the end of the spring once coaches get a chance to see him in person.

ATH Kyler McMichael (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: McMichael has offers from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and others.

Performance: The event was held at McMichael’s high school and he looked more than comfortable on his home turf. He won several reps during one-on-ones and also looked very fluid during drills, especially considering he measured in at 6-foot and 180 pounds.

DE Nolan Smith (2019)

Recruiting Wrap: Smith is waiting on his first offer.

Performance: Smith was one of the few underclassmen defensive linemen to have success and he looks like he’s only scratching the surface of his potential. Right now he’s a 6-foot-2, 210-pound prospect who used his speed to have success coming off the edge, but it’s easy to see him growing into a big-time prospect down the line.

ATH KJ Wallace (2019)

Recruiting Wrap: Wallace has offers from Auburn, South Carolina and others.

Performance: Wallace is another shifty wide receiver who gives defensive backs fits in a one-on-one setting, and his quick feet and ability to make sharp cuts only aid him more when he’s playing in space. Wallace is still young and could play on either side of the ball, but right now he’s fun to watch with the ball in his hands.

OL Clay Webb (2019)

Recruiting Wrap: Webb has an early offer from Mississippi State.

Performance: Webb showed nice versatility at the camp while taking reps at center and at guard. He won some reps impressively and has a good, strong base that allows him to hold his own against even the biggest of defensive linemen.

ATH Alontae Taylor (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Taylor is committed to Vanderbilt.

Performance: Taylor is a versatile athlete who attended Saturday’s camp as a defensive back and then turned out for Sunday’s quarterback challenge and nearly made the finals. His Saturday performance was impressive and it looks like if he devotes himself to defensive back full-time, he could turn into quite the prospect.

DE Alfred Thomas (2018)

Recruiting Wrap: Thomas has early offers from Georgia, Kentucky and others.

Performance: Thomas wasn’t the most consistent prospect in attendance when it came to pass-rushing technique, but he has a relentless motor that helped him finish off and win some reps that might have otherwise gone the other way. Once he learns some more moves to add to his arsenal, he will be very tough for interior linemen to block. Shea Patterson
