Offer No. 1 definitely was not expected for Bobby Ezzard.
The 2021 wide receiver out of Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood hopped in the car with close friend Barrett Carter to tag along on his visit to Lexington Saturday. Carter was offered by the Wildcats a few weeks ago, but Ezzard had not been hearing much from them.
By the time the visit ended, Kentucky's staff knew a lot about Ezzard. They had spent time with him, they had watched his film and most importantly, they had offered him a scholarship.
What a weekend it was for the talented wideout.
IN HIS OWN WORDS
"When I got that offer, it was a very exciting feeling for me," said Ezzard. "I just went up there with Barrett, so I had no clue an offer was coming. It was definitely unexpected.
"I have been playing football since I was eight years old, so I love the game, and when I was in eighth grade is when I started thinking about college. I knew then that I wanted to go to college to play football and get the education.
"I have my first offer and it is just a blessing from God. It is a great feeling.
"I had been up to Kentucky before, for a game when they played South Carolina, so I had a pretty good feel for them and the program there before this visit. I really like the atmosphere, the facilities and the coaches there. Overall, Kentucky is a great university.
"With them being first to offer me, they will always be on my list. It is my first offer, so they will definitely be in my top five for a long time.
"I am very excited about the journey ahead now. I have my first offer and I just want to keep working for me."
RIVALS REACTION
Auburn and Georgia State are two other schools that are showing interest in Ezzard. He grew up a fan of Oregon, but Kentucky is the school on his mind now. The Wildcats made a very strong impression on the sophomore and he is now planning to return to Lexington later this spring or summer. This is just the beginning for Ezzard. He is a wide receiver in Georgia to know moving forward. He is going to pick up many more offers.
