Ezra Miller ready to carry Iowa banner for 2019

CHICAGO – In-state offensive lineman Ezra Miller became the first commitment in Iowa’s 2019 class when he pledged to head coach Kirk Ferentz at the Hawkeye’s spring game on Saturday.

“I knew that was going to be the outcome and I had told the coaches, but we were going to wait until that day to tell Coach Ferentz and for me to announce it as well,” Miller said.

Being the first commitment in the class was important for Miller, and he is taking the responsibility seriously as he encourages others to join him.

“I am mostly going to the other Iowa boys that I know will fit well there,” Miller said. “If they say they’re not going to go there I’ll back off and let coaches handle it from there, but if I think they’ll go there then I’ll push them a little bit.”

In pitching other in-state prospects to join him, Miller will rely on the aspects that attracted him to the Hawkeyes.

“The thing that clicked for me was the very stable program, good program, good coaching staff that loves their players and they treat them very well,” he said.

With two more years of high school growth and development ahead of him, Iowa is still open to how they will utilize the 6-foot-6 and 280-pound Miller.

“Honestly, they said I have the ability to move around a little bit, so they don’t know where they’ll put me yet,” Miller said. “I think I fit very well. I am big enough to fit in as a lineman; I just need to develop some aggressiveness.”

Miller’s commitment was joined this weekend by class of 2018 three-star running back Henry Geil, who announced his decision on Sunday.
