Evege impressed with Irish junior day visit

Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne junior cornerback Donnie Evege took in a junior day at Notre Dame last weekend. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder was impressed by his trip. What did Evege like about Notre Dame?
"It was a great visit," he said. "I liked all the facilities and felt really well connected with the coaching staff, especially with coach Lewis and Haywood. They both seemed like really nice guys.

"I got there and we had an introduction from coach Weis in which he talked about everything Notre Dame has to offer both academically and athletically. Then we toured the campus. Coach Weis seemed like a great coach and that's an understatement. He treats all his guys with respect and I really liked him a lot. He's got three Super Bowl rings he's obviously doing something right."
The visit really helped Notre Dame in the early going for Evege.
"This visit definitely gave them more credibility with me now," he said. "I got to witness the atmosphere of a basketball game and see the whole school in general. It also allowed me to put a name with a face and get to know the staff a lot better."
Currently, in-state power Ohio State leads for Evege.
"Notre Dame will always be up there with them, but I've got an offer from Ohio State already and have a real good connection with the whole coaching staff," he said. "I've also been to Ohio State numerous times."
Evege is looking at heading to a few other junior days coming up including Tennessee on January 28th, Purdue on February 11th and he's still looking into one at Miami (Ohio).
Last season the cornerback prospect accounted for 827 yards of offense and nine touchdowns. He added 31 tackles on defense in spot duty as he was named honorable mention all-conference. He also got a much more meaningful award from the coaches.
"I got an award at the school called the Alex Ritchie key to the weight room award for the hardest worker," he said. "It's the first time they've done this award because Alex was a guy just a couple years ago that died in a car accident. I've got to say this is the best award I've received because it's in honor of someone that passed away. That award really keeps me pushing myself harder every day."
