English closing in on offers

Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher's defensive end Jack English is looking for his first offer. The 6-foot-6, 250-pounder has a number of college programs interested at this time, some very close to offering.
"I've had pretty much all the schools in the ACC interested," he said. "Then, I'm getting a fair amount of mail from Notre Dame, Stanford and Rutgers.

"The heaviest schools recruiting me are probably Virginia, Boston College, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia Tech."
Are the schools saying anything specific?
"I've talked a lot with Virginia's coaches and Coach Brattan at Maryland," he said. "Coach Brattan said he's got to get four people's approval, he's gotten three and the transcripts are the last piece."
English noted plans to take visits to Virginia, Virginia Tech and Maryland sometime this spring, likely around spring break.
So, does he like anyone?
"I guess at this point, any school interested is up there at the top," he said. "Obviously I've built a pretty close relationship with Virginia and Maryland. Those are probably the two I've gotten to know the best. Boston College is up there too.
"Virginia is a great academic school and I've got a couple family connections. Plus, the program is on the rise. That would be a great thing to be involved with. Coach Brattan has shown a lot of interest from Maryland. He's a really good guy and they have a really well run program."
On the year, English posted approximately 48 tackles, 21 for loss, two forced fumbles, seven sacks and one interception. He added 10 receptions for approximately 100-yards and a touchdown while earning first team all-prep, second team all-metro and first team all-state.
Regarding his ability, English discussed what sticks out right now.
"Probably it is my first step off the line and my hands," he said. "I can get off blockers and get to the quarterback."
While he is getting interest as a baseball prospect, English is favoring football, but isn't closing the door.
