Elvis leaving Texas

Is Elvis leaving the building? Or better yet, is Elvis leaving the Lone Star State for the SEC? After talking with Richland Hills, Texas, standout athlete Elvis Gallegos, it sure looks that way.
“I got offered by Alabama,” Gallegos, who is 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, said.

“I’ve thought long and hard about it. I don’t know what’s keeping me back from a commitment. I guess it’s because I want to weight my options out a little bit longer and see what the other schools have to offer.”
But the more Gallegos talked, the surer he sounded like he would end up eventually in Tuscaloosa.
“It was in June when I was offered by coach Fran,” Gallegos said. “It had all of the details about the offer. I was really happy and relieved. I thought I had made it. This is one more step closer to my dream.
“I then talked with coach Thurman. It became clear right away that Alabama was one of my top choices. You know they’ve won 12 national championships. I don’t know what I’m waiting on. I guess that’s a good question.”
Gallegos, who will be at this weekend’s Texas Seven-on-Seven State Tournament in College Station, said one of the things that is holding him back is the distance from home.
“I would like to stay a little bit closer to home,” he said. “My family, my girlfriend would like me to see me come play every weekend.”
There are a few options a little closer to home, Gallegos said.
Texas continues to show some interest, along with A&M, which asked him to not commit yet because they might have an offer shortly for him. Nebraska has also been sending a lot of mail and a recent conversation with coach Barnes helped solidify the Huskers’ interest.
Also Notre Dame has said they are interested and want him to hold off on a commitment.
But can he?
“I don’t know right now,” Gallegos said. “I really like what I know about Alabama and coach Fran.”
Gallegos is a true athlete – some teams are recruiting him as a defensive back, while other like him at receiver.
