Redondo Beach (Calif.) Redondo Union athlete Kevin Ellison took his first official visit of the season to Colorado this past weekend. Ellison gave us his thoughts on the trip including the high point of the weekend for him.
Ellison, 6-0, 215 pounds and his Redondo team won a huge game on Friday against area rival Manhatten Beach (Calif.) Mira Costa and then took the first flight to Colorado early Saturday morning.
“I got there about 11:00, two hours before game time,” Ellison said. “I met with the coaches for a little bit and then sat back and watched the game. It was incredible, they ended up beating Kansas State in the last few minutes of the game and the atmosphere there was easily the highlite of the visit for me.
“Colorado played well and it was really an exciting game. Everyone was excited in the locker room after the game and it was a fun experience. After the game, I went out with my host Alex Ligon, who is from Southern CA and knows my brother (Keith- Oregon St LB) pretty well.
“We just hung out with some of the other player’s, there was nothing wild or anything. I’m not a big party guy anyway so it was perfect for me. I spent a lot of time with the coaches all weekend too. Coach Sims, the running back coach is the one recruiting me and I also talked to a lot of the defensive coaches.
“We watched a lot of film and they showed me how I would fit in with their defense. They defined my role for me pretty good and I was really impressed with all the coaches there. They like me as a linebacker, that’s where everyone is recruiting me except USC who likes me as a safety.”
Ellison will take an unofficial visit to Oregon State next weekend to watch his older brother play against the Oregon Ducks. He’ll then finish off his visits with trips to USC (Nov. 27), Oregon State (Dec 3) and Cal (Dec 10).
