season.
Nashville Hillsboro's
Chris
Russell, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back with 4.45 speed, has added
the Alabama Crimson Tide to his growing list of offers.
"They seem really high on me," he said. "It's a good
program, and I know a couple of guys from Nashville who are down there, so I
hear a lot of good stuff about them. I also like the cornerbacks they've had
there in the past. They've had some good ones like Fernando Bryant and a bunch
of others who have gone on to the league. That's something I'm looking at."
In addition to Alabama, Russell has offers from Florida,
Mississippi, Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana and Middle Tennessee.
His new top five is as follows:
1. Florida - "I like their coaching staff a lot. I got a
chance to go to their camp this summer and was very impressed with the way they
run their defense and the program as a whole. Their coach thinks I'd be perfect
for the aggressive system they run."
2. Ole Miss - "I like coach (David) Cutcliffe a lot. We've
formed a good relationship. I like the way their DBs play, too. I've got some
friends down there, and my coach is from there, so they've told me about the
program."
3. Notre Dame - "The tradition is the biggest thing. And I
know they're going to offer a scholarship. They're just waiting to see my ACT
score. I had a 15 the last time I took it, and I need to have it about eight
points higher. I'm confident I will do that, and then I'll definitely be
considering them. They've produced a lot of NFL players, and even if you don't
make it that far, you get a great education and pretty much are guaranteed a
good future."
4. Alabama - "Like I said, they've just shown a lot of
interest of late, and I like what I've hard so far. The only negative is the
bowl ban and the sanctions they're facing, but at the most, it would just affect
me one year."
5. Indiana - "I like the new coaching staff. They're being
real aggressive in recruiting. They send me stuff every day. I think coach
(Gerry) DiNardo can turn their program around."
Russell helped lead Hillsboro to a 14-1 record as a junior by recording 35
tackles, 25 pass break-ups and five interceptions.
