Downers Grove (Ill.) North junior safety prospect Garrett Edwards (6-foot-2, 180 pounds) has been able to fit in a handful of college junior day events this winter in between his varsity basketball season. Edwards latest journey's took him to Wisconsin, Purdue and Notre Dame.
"I was able to get out to a few junior day events over the last few weeks," Edwards said. "Since we last talked, I've been to Wisconsin, Purdue and Notre Dame for junior days."
Edwards, who led the Trojans to the 2004 Class 8A state title, talked about his visit to the University of Wisconsin.
"Wisconsin was more of just an unofficial visit. I liked the fact that it was a much smaller deal at Wisconsin, and I had plenty of attention from the coaches. I was able to get tours of the facilities and the campus in Madison. I really enjoyed the facilities at Wisconsin, they have a really great weight room and indoor facility, and Fort Randall is also an amazing stadium. I also had a chance to talk with Coach (Barry) Alvarez in his office, and we also had a chance to talk and meet with the rest of the coaches at Wisconsin. I really liked Wisconsin quite a bit and I'm definitely interested in them."
Edwards then headed to both Purdue and Notre Dame last weekend.
"We totally forgot about the time change in Indiana, so we got to Purdue later than we wanted to last Saturday. The facilities and the stadium at Purdue were very impressive. I also had a chance to talk with the coaches at Purdue including head coach Joe Tiller and my recruiting coach Mark Hagen. I got along really well with the coaches at Purdue, and the only negative was that I didn't get a chance to see more of the facilities and the campus. I really liked what I saw at Purdue, it was really nice and I also enjoyed the crowd at the basketball game."
"I also really liked Notre Dame a lot. I had a chance to meet a lot of the recruits from Chicagoland and that was fun. Notre Dame really had a lot of kids there, but the event was really organized. We went on a campus tour, then we also had some really impressive talks from Coach (Charlie) Weis and a few of the administrators at Notre Dame. I was also impressed with the virtual tour of the planned renovations at Notre Dame. I also had a chance to talk with some of the coaches, and I also talked with Brady Quinn for about a half hour. Notre Dame was really impressive."
Edwards has also continued to draw mail and tape request from several schools this winter.
"I'm still getting mail on a regular basis from several schools, plus both Boston College and Iowa State have started to show some interest. Several schools have contacted my head coach (John Wander) and they are requesting my junior tape."
