Edwards takes visit, grabs new offer

Running back Augustus Edwards of Staten Island (N.Y.) Tottenville took an unofficial visit earlier this week to check out a spring practice at Syracuse, and then got the good news yesterday that he had also received a new offer from a Big Ten program.
"I went to Syracuse on Tuesday," said Edwards. "It was great. I like the campus. The academics really stood out."

During the visit he had a chance to watch a spring practice session.
"They work very hard and they're all business," said Edwards, who is 6-foot-1 and 210-pounds.
Yesterday he got the news that Purdue was his most recent offer.
"I am excited and I'm going to consider them," said Edwards. "They play in the Big Ten, and that is big time football."
Aside from Purdue and Syracuse, Edwards also has early offers from Connecticut, Rutgers, Vanderbilt and Temple. He has also been receiving increased interest recently from both Indiana and Georgia Tech. He does not claim a current favorite.
Edwards does not have any further visits scheduled, but he will attend the Nike Camp in Baltimore later this spring.
