Edwards draws his first Big Ten offer

Downers Grove (Ill.) North senior prospect Garrett Edwards (6-foot-2, 192 pounds) is one recruiting prospect from the Land of Lincoln who almost redefines the position term athlete. Edwards once again proved that regardless of position, he's a highly sought after recruit. Edwards has added his 6th overall scholarship offer on Wednesday afternoon from the University of Illinois.
"I went to a one-day camp at Illinois on Wednesday morning," Edwards said. "I had a chance to talk with head coach Ron Zook after the camp was completed, and he offered me a scholarship."

Edwards talked about landing his latest offer from the Illini as well as his camp impressions from Champaign.
"I actually was in Champaign on Tuesday night and I had a chance to hang out with (Illinois wide receiver) Kyle Kleckner. Kyle and I have been friends for a long time, and it was great to be able to get to pick his brain about the Illini. He had nothing but good things to say about how things are going under the new coaching staff. It was good for me to get the real story about a school from someone I trust."
"The Illinois camp was great. We had maybe 8 kids in total at the camp, and I really liked that format for a one-day camp. We were fully tested, then we had a chance to work basically one on one with the assistant coaches. I had a chance to work out at safety, wide receiver and quarterback. I really liked working that closely with the Illinois coaches, it really gave you a chance to get to know each coach. I really liked that format."
"I really like Illinois. I'm really familiar with the campus and the facilities at Illinois. I was able to help win a state title last year at Memorial Stadium with my team, and that place will always be special in my mind whether I end up at Illinois or not. Academically Illinois is very strong, plus I also have several friends on that team already. I'm pretty excited about getting an offer from the Illini."
Edwards is looking at checking out a few more one-day camps this summer.
"I'm set to camp at Wisconsin this coming Monday. I'm also looking to camp at Purdue and Notre Dame. After that we really start to get really involved with different team camps so I'm not sure if I'll be able to camp anywhere else this summer."
Garrett Edwards currently has offers from Illinois, Western Michigan, Iowa State, Toledo, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan.
