ECU lands first pledge under McNeill

New East Carolina head coach Ruffin McNeill pulled in his first commitment for the Pirates earlier today. The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder made his pledge this morning to the ECU coaches.
"I committed this morning and told one of my assistant coaches," Durham (N.C.) Hillside linebacker Treshawn Council said. "Then, I talked to Coach McNeill, the defensive coordinator, the linebacker coach and my recruiting coach. They were all very excited and glad to have me."

Council picked up the scholarship in the past few days and quickly followed up with a decision.
"I've always liked East Carolina," he said. "I grew up an ECU fan and for me it was the colors and having been down there before. It's a nice campus and that's pretty much all I can say. I was shocked by the offer. I got all emotional.
"I do really like the staff. I'm going down there next Friday to meet them. I'm going back on the 17th as well."
It should be an easy transition for Council as he'll be doing similar things to what he's accustomed to at Hillside.
"They actually told me what my scheme was and it's the same role at outside linebacker that I do now," he said. "I'll guard the wide receiver a bit and come off the end on blitzes."
Clearly East Carolina was sold, what stands out about him as a player?
"I think it's the fact I grew up playing the game. I like going out there and getting down and dirty. I like hitting people."
Council earned all-conference honors while posting 12 sacks as a junior.
