ECU commit talks about his decision

East Carolina picked up a pledge late last week. The in-state prospect landed just his second offer on Wednesday and quickly followed up with a decision on Thursday for the Pirates.
"I committed Thursday to Coach Brian Mitchell at East Carolina," Greensboro (N.C.) Northern Guilford athlete Rocco Scarfone said. "He's a really nice dude. My dad liked him a lot and I liked him. He was very happy about my decision and happy to have me."

Scarfone picked the Pirates over an offer from Coastal Carolina and interest from Duke.
What made him jump on the scholarship immediately?
"I went on a visit there with the old coaching staff under Skip Holtz," he said. "I had a good time at the game. I had the most fun of any game. Once I went to camp, I really liked the coaching staff and what they are doing. I liked the recruits including Lamar Ivey and Danny Webster. I think they are going to help out the team a lot.
"The coaches were the main reason. Coach Mitchell and Coach McNeill. I really like him a lot, he's a great guy that is down-to-earth and knows his stuff. I'm expecting them to be in the top 25 and I think they are going to have a really good team and compete for some bowl games."
A versatile prospect, the 5-foot-11, 167-pounder plans to play safety in Greenville.
"They said I can play as a true freshman if I show I can play, but they want me to get up to 180-pounds," he said. "More than likely I'll be redshirting."
