East Texas TE getting interest

Big Sandy Harmony tight end Lucas Askew may hail from a small East Texas town but the 6-foot-6, 210-pound junior is big on talent. After a first-team all-district campaign this past season he is hearing from a number of colleges.
"I'm being recruited by (Texas) Tech, Princeton, Cornell, Kentucky has emailed me, SMU, Ole Miss and (Texas) A&M," Askew said. "I'm actually going to A&M's junior day this weekend. We're leaving here really early on Saturday to get there."

Askew says he is very familiar with the Aggie program but has yet to meet the new coaching staff.
"I went to their junior day last year and I knew coach (Mike) Sherman and coach (Troy) Walters well," he said. "I also went to camp there last summer and I really like it down there. I really haven't had much of a chance to speak to the new coaches though."
In addition to A&M, Askew plans to attend a couple of other junior days as well.
"I was invited to Ole Miss next weekend," he said. "I'm pretty sure that we're going to be able to make the drive. I'm also going to the SMU one on March 25."
Askew is still waiting on his first offer but he feels it could come from an SEC program.
"My trainer that I work out with, he says that Ole Miss is really high on me," he said. "I think there's a chance they could offer me at the junior day."
As far as early favorites, Askew has an eclectic top group.
"I'd say my top three would be A&M, Miami and Harvard," he said. "The Ivy League has a great education so that's intriguing. I really want to play in the SEC or at Miami though. The SEC is the best conference and Miami just has so much tradition."
Askew caught 23 passes for 650 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior from his wide receiver position. He says he could possibly continue to play receiver in college as well depending on how big he gets.
